  • trad: 重陰必陽,重陽必陰。

    When wood meets metal, it is felled. When fire meets water, it is extinguished. When soil meets wood, it is penetrated. When metal meets fire, it is destroyed. When water meets soil, it is interrupted [in its flow]. These [five processes] apply to the [interactions among] all the myriad beings; their [validity] is never exhausted.
